Howdy, partner! We started Dodge City in October 2018 with the dream to bring the spirit of risk from the 1800s to men on either side of the Mississippi. We believe that those who left everything behind and headed West embody what makes this country of opportunity great. Those pioneers dreamt of a better world and life for themselves and their families, believing the risk was worth the reward. In our eyes, the risk IS the reward. The privilege of chasing our dreams and putting everything we have into making a great product and an iconic brand is reward enough for us. We want to share that passion of chasing what makes you happy with every man that holds a Dodge City product in his hands.
Matt (owner): For over 5 years I climbed the ladder in corporate finance. And although it was apparent that I was not built for a desk-job, I stayed because it paid the bills and I was nervous to take the jump and start my own journey.
The idea of Dodge City came to me while I was frustrated with the semantics of corporate life--I made the decision to finally take my risk and start Dodge City for Men. I called my girlfriend (still my girlfriend, love you Jillian) and told her how I'd be launching/operating a business and that although I'd be busy, she'd always remain the priority of my life. Back then, she thought I was nuts--now she's one of our biggest supporters. The simple idea of taking the risk to create something has grown into the biggest passion in my life. I love every one of our customers, and I want all of you to share in the vision of John and myself.
John (owner): I spent seven years active duty in the United States Air Force, doing work in countries I never dreamed I would visit. The only thing that was missing was my ambition. I loved serving my country and I loved putting on the uniform. As time went on though, I felt like I wasn’t doing everything I was capable of to make an impact in the world.
When I separated I felt lost like so many people do. I knew I wanted to do something great but I didn’t know how. Matt approached me and told me about an idea he had. Dodge City. Looking back on those early days I still see the dream so clearly. We would create a company for men all over. Dodge City would stand for passion, ambition, determination, and persistence. We took from the stories we grew up on of the Ol' West. The expansion into the unknown, risking everything for the belief in something better than what had come before. Creating our own destiny and forging it into something different and better. We want to develop something lasting and unique. Something that we can be proud of calling our own. Now I take the ambition I had once thought lost, and use it as a catalyst for change.
Our company values are passion, ambition, and persistence. We love taking the road less traveled, as long as we don’t get lost in the woods (which happens often enough to mention that we’d like to steer clear of getting lost in the woods, or at least next time bring water and snacks…).
We do our best to write a personal note to each customer, because without all of you that buy-in to what we’re doing, we wouldn’t be able to do it. We always appreciate a message so we can chat with people just like us--and if you ever can, come see us at one of our shows.
